Happy Mother’s Day

Mom

At age 4, we think: Mom knows everything!

At 8: Mom knows a lot!

At 12: Mom doesn’t really know everything.

At 14: Mom doesn’t know anything.

At 16: Mom doesn’t exist!

At 18: Mom’s old fashioned.

At 25: Maybe Mom does know about this!

At 35: Before we decide let’s ask Mom.

At 45: I wonder…what Mom thinks about this?

At 75: I wish I could ask mom about this.

So, I seem to be right on schedule for how much I think Mom knows.  Lately, I’ve realized silly things like washing and reusing freezer bags does make sense.  We always teased her that they were supposed to be thrown away.  Turns out that I can save a lot of money by using them several times.  Who knew?  I’m still not washing the plastic cups though!

Mom, thanks for teaching us so many things!  Thanks for making a million school lunches and helping with tons of school projects.  Thanks for planning fun things and driving us everywhere we needed to go.  Thanks for being there and loving us! Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!

I wanted to find some great Mom pictures to post, but there never are too many pictures of Mom.  I guess she’s still always taking the pictures.  We’ll have to work on that.  So I went back to my most favorite pictures:

And… a Happy Mother’s Day a second mother, without whom I wouldn’t have the same life I have today. Thanks for raising Jesse to be the man he has become. Happy Mother’s Day, Mildred!

Grocery Deals

I scored some great deals on grocery items this week. I’ve noticed that stores seem to have the best deals at the very beginning of the month. So I tend to spend the majority of the grocery budget during the first couple weeks of the month, when things are on sale, and then we are pretty well set for the second half of the month (except for more produce).

I stocked up on canned tomatoes which were BOGO. I bought lots of the steam-in-the-bag frozen vegetables since they were on sale for $1.00 each. And I even bought Jesse more of his favorite snack, Oreo Cakesters, on sale 2 for $5.00. I was a little worried about how much the bill was going to be by the end of the store as I found more and more deals. But I came in well under budget even with all the fresh produce, meat, and cleaning supplies I needed.

Here are some of my bargains:

Cereal

Cereal was on sale for BOGO, plus I had a coupon for $1.50 off three cereals. Regular price… $4.09 per box, my price… $1.67 per box! Jesse goes through these big boxes pretty quickly, so I refuse to ever pay regular price for them.

Yogurt

This yogurt was on sale for $1.00 each, plus I had a coupon for $1.00 off. Regular price… $1.50 each, my price… FREE! I’ve been wanting to try this yogurt for a while because I’ve heard it’s really yummy, but I’m not usually a big yogurt fan. I figured I can’t go wrong to try it for free.

Ham

Ham was on sale for $2.50 each, plus I had a coupon for $0.75 off. Regular price… $3.69 each, my price… $1.75. This ham is really good and one of the only lunch meats I’ve found that I’m able to eat. It’s more expensive because it’s all natural, but I always buy it when it’s on sale.

Deodorant

Deodorant was on sale for BOGO, plus I had a coupon for $0.50 off. Regular price… $3.49 each, my price… $1.49 each. I wasn’t out of deodorant yet, but this was such a good deal. I’ll be set for a while now!

Tampons

These were also on sale for BOGO, plus I had a coupon for $2.50 off two boxes. Regular price… $4.29 each, my price… $0.89 each. I think that was my best deal out of the bunch.

Windex

Lastly, Windex was on sale for BOGO, plus I had a coupon for $1.00 off two bottles. Regular price… $3.39 each, my price… $1.19 each.

Thanks for sitting through my grocery store commercial, I just had to share how much I saved. You may now return to your regularly scheduled day. 😉

Space shuttle

THAT was what we wanted to see!  Unfortunately, it didn’t happen.  It was pretty disappointing when we heard the news because I was really looking forward to being able to see it.

Yesterday I drove with a couple of friends to Titusville to see the shuttle launch. We were up early for the drive and got there in time to find free parking and we walked to a nice park where there was supposed to be a great view. We got all set up and comfy with all our snacks for the long wait. By lunch time the weather had cleared up and it was such a beautiful day that we thought it would be looking good for a successful launch. Then we heard that it was a no-go.

Our seats would have been perfect too. I forgot to take any pictures since I was still hours away from needing to have my camera ready, but this is where we were (only it was packed with people). We could see the big NASA building and where the launch pad was so there would have been nothing blocking our view.

Space View Park

It was still a good day especially since I wouldn’t have had other plans anyways. In the end we drove across the state just the find the perfect place for a picnic. 😉
