A Day at the Fair

We had such a great time at the Morrow County Fair yesterday!  We got a bit of a late start since Jesse and I were so tired and catching up on some sleep, but we made it just before lunch time.  It’s a good thing I packed some warmer clothes, it was pretty cold and very windy.

The fair was only a short drive away from the house. I just love driving past so much empty space. So many small country roads with only a few houses and field after field. It’s so beautiful and so quiet.

GoatGrandma said the animals would be the first stop if I wanted to see them.  I didn’t realize how fun seeing all the animals would be.  I had decided I would look and not touch, but that didn’t last past the first row of goats.  The only place I’ve seen these animals is at the zoo, but these were real farm animals.Goat with hornsCold sheepMe with a goat

I was like an excited little kid every time Grandma would say would the next animal would be. “Do you want to see the pigs?”….”Yeah!!” These pigs were huge!

Next we headed over to the cow barn. It was about this time that I realized I was the only one with my camera taking pictures of the animals. The locals must have been laughing at me, but when is the next time I’ll be in a cow barn?

We also got to see a couple of llamas. He wasn’t interested in smelling my hand, but he liked Grandma better.

Then we headed over to see chickens, ducks, and rabbits. There were so many lined up in rows and rows of cages. We had fun taking pictures of all the different types.

After seeing all those animals it was time for lunch. We walked out to move the car to the other side of the fair. The car was parked along a huge corn field and I couldn’t resist taking pictures of me hiding in the corn. I was hoping we wouldn’t be coming too late in the year to see corn as tall as me.

Since Grandpa and Grandma have lived here their whole lives they know everybody. We didn’t get very far before there was yet another friend to stop and visit with.

And then it was time for food. There were so many choices. I ended up with a pulled pork sandwich and Jesse got a huge mound of french fries and pulled pork covered with cheese and barbecue sauce. Both were very tasty.

Lunch

After lunch we walked through several buildings with booths selling different items. I most enjoyed the crafty, hand-made things. We also got to see all the items that won prizes such as quilts, canned goods, photography, pies, and produce.

And then there were the horses. They were so pretty… and huge!HorseHorse

Last, but not least, we walked through the barn full of antique tractors. I think this was Grandpa’s favorite part. He studied the tractors and pointed out to us what had been changed from the original. I think the oldest was from 1939. They were neat to see.

After a day of walking with the wind blowing through my hair, I completely passed out when we got back to the car. We had a fun and full day.

Labor Day Weekend Mini Vacation

Our relaxing weekend is off to a good start.  I got to leave work around noon to go straight to the airport.  We wanted to get there plenty early because we had never traveled with all of Jesse’s medications and equipment.  A few of the aerosols require needles for mixing the powder with water, plus his big vest machine, and the many other pills and such.  We were worried they might need to check through everything.  They must be used to seeing that kind of thing because it didn’t slow things down at all.

Jesse's shoeWhen we went to check in our bag, it was two pounds too heavy.  The guy asked if there was anything that we could easily take out.  Shoes were right on the top so we were going to move a pair of shoes into our carry-on.  When we took the first shoe out, that was enough to meet the weight.  Jesse was surprised that one of his shoes was that heavy.  So we kept laughing because everytime we needed to get something out of the carry-on bag we first had to take the one shoe off the top.  I wonder if anyone noticed we might need another shoe??

DominoesWe made it to Columbus, Ohio safely and Grandpa and Grandma met us at the airport.  Turns out that Friday night is their dominoes night.  We grabbed a quick dinner at Wendy’s then headed straight to their friend Eldora’s house to play.  The rest of their group was already waiting for us to get there.  We like paying dominoes with Grandpa and Grandma, so that was fun.

Jesse and I were so tired from such a long day, he kept falling asleep between his turns by the end of the game.  As soon as the game was over the grandmas went to the kitchen to get dessert ready.  When they came back with the dessert and we were both passed out on the couch.  We didn’t stay too long after dessert and when we got to the house it wasn’t long before we were fast asleep.  Man, you just sleep so much better with the windows open for a cool breeze!

Vacation: Baseball

Driving thru mountainsThis morning we had to check out of the cabin to begin our long trip back home. We took the slightly longer scenic route out of Gatlinburg. The drive was so pretty.  The road were very steep going up the mountain in some places, my car isn’t used to driving like that in Florida.  We wanted to keep pulling off the road to take pictures, but knew that if we did we would never make it to Atlanta.

After checking in to out hotel in Atlanta we headed out to dinner at Pappadeaux. It was a great choice, so yummy! Then we headed over to the baseball game. The Atlanta Braves were playing the Tampa Rays. It was hard to know who to cheer for since the Rays are our home team, but we were in Atlanta. We just cheered for the game and hoped for high scores. The Braves ended up winning 3-1. It was fun and the weather was perfect.  And Nanny had never seen Dip ‘n Dots ice cream before, so Dad bought her some to try.

Now it’s just time for a good night sleep, and then finally back to my own bed tomorrow night. I guess that means vacation is officially over. 🙁
