Vacation: Rafting

Rafting busToday, white water rafting was on the schedule.  We had quite an adventure on the crazy route the GPS determined for us to take, but we finally made it there.  When we got to the rafting place, you would have thought we had gone back in time or something.  One of those things where you just have to look around and figure out what am I doing here?  It definitely takes some interesting people to work at a place like that.

The ride wasn’t as wild as the website made it sound like it would be, but we still had a good time.  We had a couple of big rapids where we got wet, and we almost fell out of the raft once.  I’m pretty sure the bus ride back to the top of the river was more dangerous than the rafting was.  The driver was talking about a time when the bus fell off the windy roads into the river, and then he was joking that it just might happen again.  He didn’t seem to concerned about taking tight corners slowly, but at least we made it back.Rafting

Now we are just chill-axing after dinner.  I think we should buy this cabin,  I could live here!

Vacation: Hiking

Us hikingToday we decided that we wanted to go hiking. According to the website it was a short drive down the road to where the trail should begin. So we parked the car and began walking to find the entrance. After walking clear through town in feels like temperature over 100 degrees, we still couldn’t find anywhere to hike. So, most of us ducked into some air conditioning while Dad went to bring the car. We were all pretty disappointed that we didn’t get to hike, and at this point were now too tired of walking if we could find where to hike.

Us on rocksAfter we all piled back into the car, Dad continued driving to find some hiking. We found a path that we could drive up the mountain. Now that’s my kind of hiking! We got all of the scenery with none of the work. When we got to the top there was a place to park and we got out and were finally able to do our hiking. We wandered down the path a little ways a found a creek we could play in. It wasn’t quite as good as the waterfall we were supposed to find, but better than nothing. We balanced our way over the rocks in the creek, avoided poison ivy, and made our way through the trees back to the car. It was short, but we all agreed that our hiking requirement had been met.

We drove back to the cabin for a spaghetti dinner followed by a movie on the big theater screen. We lounged around and then went for a soak in the jacuzzi.Family hikingNicDew hikingJesse hikingHiking climbWoodsRocking chairs

Vacation: On the Road Again…

Smoky the BearDay 2 of vacation started off with free breakfast at the hotel.  Then we took off driving again to make it to the cabin.  Today was a much shorter driving day than yesterday.  I slept a lot of the way today, and Jesse did an awesome job keeping us alive on the crazy roads.

River along the roadThe last part of the drive on the way here was gorgeous!  We were on windy roads through the mountains.  Cliffs on one side of the road, and river on the other.  We put the windows down for a little bit to feel the breeze and listen to the river running over the rocks. We don’t see scenery like that at home.

Windy road We made it to the cabin shortly after 3:00.  We had seen pictures online of what the cabin would look like, but it looks even so much nicer in person.  We have plenty of room for all 8 of us to spread out.  There will definitely been plenty of relaxing going on here!

After we had explored around the cabin, we made a grocery run to buy all of the food we will be cooking for the week.  Mom scheduled out for everyone to take turn preparing and cleaning up after meals.  Andrew and Nicole (my brother and his girlfriend) took their turn tonight and made us pizza and salad.  And now we are sitting on the comfy leather couch in front of the fire.  I think this is a great family vacation choice.
