500 Visitors and Counting…

Sometime over the past weekend I reached my 500th unique visitor (or at least unique computer).  I was hoping that I would be on the computer to see exactly when it happened, but I missed it… oh well.  I really just starting blogging for fun and didn’t know that I would actually have readers.  But now, exactly 2 months after I started, I have had 514 visitors.  THANKS for reading, and coming back for more!

Studiopress ShowcaseAlso, my new site design got picked by the designers of the theme we used to be displayed in their showcase.  How cool is that?!  I guess Jesse and I design very well together, and he was able to execute everything I was explaining for him to do.  Seeing the things he has done and taught me to do with my site has given me a better appreciation for what he does for a living.  He has been trying to talk me into starting a blog for years now, but I never thought it would be something I wanted to do.  However, he has now turned me into a bit of geek, having to check on my site stats and stay updated on my friends’ blogs.  Turns out he was right… it is kinda fun!

What’s so fun about blogging??

1.  The best reason I have for blogging is all the new friends I have “met” online.  I used to tease Jesse for spending so much time on the computer working on his blog, but now I find myself doing the same thing.  I loose track of time reading about what everyone has been up to.

I have been especially interested in finding so many CF blogs.  Since CF people aren’t supposed to be around each other because of sharing their super-germs, it was impossible to get to know people who know what it’s like to live with someone with CF.  But now that I have found so many people in our same boat, it has been so encouraging to hear their stories, tips, and suggestions.  I love being more involved with the CF community!

2.  For those of you who know me, I’m a pretty quiet person so I don’t always share about all the little stories that happen in our lives.  Hopefully, as I continue to get better at blogging, my site gives me a chance to formulate my thoughts and get them out.  I’m working on being more shareable, but it isn’t my normal personality.

3.  I think it is helping me to become a better writer.  Writing is NOT a naturally strong area for me, and was often an area I had to work harder on through college.  My mind just works better at problem solving, or organizing, or other more straight-forward tasks.  I takes a lot more effort for me to figure out how to put my thoughts into actual sentences.

I think YOU should start a blog too.  Come on… it’ll be fun!

Rainy Day Project

Rainy dayThis is what the weather has been like ALL weekend.  So much for thinking about the beach or pool.  That obviously wasn’t happening.  Since the weather was so gloomy we ended up deciding not to go out to see fireworks last night, especially because I wasn’t feeling well all day.  So instead, we stayed in and watched a movie.  However at some points it became hard to hear the movie with the neighbors making so much noise shooting off their own fireworks.  Well, if you can’t beat ’em… join ’em!  We sat out in out patio for a while and enjoyed their show.  I have to say, they were pretty good for a home show.  They went off fast and there were a lot of them.  They must have spent quite a bit on those.  We benefited from some of the fun with none of the expense, and we were glad we did get to see some fireworks.

Broken picture frameIn other news, Jesse had a little accident on the stairs last week.  I was sitting on the couch downstairs, and all of a sudden I hear boom, boom, boom, CRASH!  I jumped up thinking he fell down the stairs and broke the table at the bottom of the stairs.  What actually did happen was that he knocked a picture frame off the wall.  It tumbled down the stairs scratching the paint off the wall before shattering on the downstairs tile.  I’m not sure exactly how that could happen.  He says there wasn’t enough room on the stairway with the pictures sticking out.  What?  I’ve never had that problem.  I actually reacted quite calmly (somewhat unlike me in such a circumstance), partly because the accident turned out to be much less severe than what it sounded like and partly because this was only a $4 garage sale frame.

Anyway, a rainy day such as today seemed like a good opportunity to do something about the large empty space on the wall now.  I dug out a bunch of other garage sale finds to see if there could be a FREE solution.  Jesse had to help me with the arrangement of mix matched frames since my mind doesn’t do unsymmetrical very well.  He was willing since he caused the project in the first place.  We started out using paper to try out our layout.  This didn’t work so well because I couldn’t remember which paper represented which frame.  So Jesse just did it randomly, and I think it turned out great.  Now I just need to figure out which pictures will fill the frames.

Blog Changes

Kristinology has a great new look!

It was just time for a change. I started looking around on some sites to see what I wanted it to look like. I found this awesome site that explains how to do some of the effects that she uses on her site. She also has different paper backgrounds and buttons and such available for free download.

So, with the help of my own personal web designer, Jesse, we were able to come up with a new design that I am very happy with.  He put a lot of work into making it look just how I was thinking, and I think it was well worth the effort.

What do you think?
