Locust Grove Night

Our trip is off to a great start so far. We were loaded and on the road just after 8:00 this morning and made great time, only stopping at a few rest areas and to get some food for Jesse. I brought some leftover stir fry for myself since I’ve heard from several allergy friends that cold leftovers really aren’t that bad. I keep intending to give it a shot, but there is so often an easy opportunity to borrow a microwave. We spotted one in the guard station at one of the rest areas and Jesse asked the guard if we could use it. Having a hot lunch when we jumped back in the car made me one happy passenger!

We had an easy drive and enjoyed spotting the bits of fall color as we headed north. We hope to see a whole lot more fall color before this trip is through.

Unlike last time, we made it all the way to our destination without the car breaking down on us. We decided we wanted to stay in the same hotel that we broke down at on our last trip since it was so nice and cozy. And it’s comforting to be in familiar surroundings and know exactly what our room will look like when we get there. And we even left our car battery in our car this time!

We checked in and had some time to relax and get settled before dinner. I packed leftover lasagna to reheat in our hotel room. Leftovers are so much easier than trying to find a place that will accomodate my allergies, and I’d rather not risk eating something that will make me feel crappy while stuck in the car all day the next day. Jesse says he never gets tired of lasagna so I figured that would be a good choice.

After a super hot shower using as much water as I wanted, we are just chillaxing while we wait for a couple of TV shows we wanted to watch tonight. We have a much longer driving day tomorrow, but I think we’ll be as rested as we can be for it.

Project: Garage Sale

We’re no strangers to garages sales, we love to find a good deal. But today was the first time we had been the ones sitting in the garage, getting rid of our “junk.”

It was a community garage sale that had been planned for a couple of months. When I cleaned out our old office I set anything sellable in a pile in the garage for today. We were up and outside early this morning with all of our stuff. Jesse helped by pricing items as I arranged them and he handled the cash most of the time.

We made $35! That’s less than I thought we would make, but we did manage to unload several of our space consuming items like our old television and monitor. The monitor was really old so we marked it as free instead of just throwing it away. A neighborhood kid thought he hit the jackpot when he saw a FREE price tag. I felt a little bad watching him and his friend carry it all the way home, but we didn’t have the heart to tell him he really should want it… he was so excited by it!

We also sold several books and some other odds and ends decorations. It’s funny that some of the things we almost put in the garbage sold right away, while there were some fabulous items leftover that I thought would sell for sure. I guess you can never tell what will become another man’s treasure.

Thankful Thursday – Ready for Travel

It can be very easy to think about things that you want that you don’t have. But how about taking time to be thankful for the many things that we do have? On this thankful Thursday, I’m thankful for:

Thankful

1. Our upcoming trip! We leave on Sunday for another road trip back to Grandpa and Grandma’s farm in Ohio. We are so excited to spend some more time with them, AND… Jesse’s parents are planning to be there at the same time as us so we’ll get some time with them too! AND… Our anniversary is next Friday. We are taking a bonus road trip to Niagara Falls for two nights to be there on our anniversary day. I’ve been there once before years ago, but it will be Jesse’s first time. Plus it is forecasted to be peak season for fall leaves… we are so excited!

2. Our growing business! Business has been going very well the last couple of months. We are blessed that we are able to take time away from work to spend quality time with family. We are fortunate that we are able to afford to take some time off while we travel.

3. Our prescription deliveries! We have been keeping FedEx and UPS very busy the last couple of days with all the prescription orders we needed to fill before we left town. We get great service from these specialty pharmacies, our orders arrive at our doorstep the day after we order. Everything Jesse needs for the time we will be gone has arrived so we’re all set for the rest of the month.

What are you thankful for today?
